Latin Mimosa pudica

Sensitive plant or Mimosa Pudica is a unique variety of tropical plant that is renowned for its "hiding" nature. When touched or blown on, sensitive plant will retract its fern-like leaves to its stem. This characteristic is a favourite for young gardeners. When sensitive plant is happy (often outdoors in the summer) it will bear pink globe-like flowers. This Zone 9 plant will survive year round in your house as long as it gets high levels of indirect light, especially during the winter months (direct is ok during the winter). Be careful not to initiate the sensitivity reaction too frequently as it can harm the long term survival of the plant.

Growing Sensitive Plant from seeds is quite easy. Sow 1/8" deep in a sandy soilless mixture. keep the mixture warm and moist during the critical germination period. We recommend using bottom heat for these seeds. To increase heat and humidity you can use a plastic covering. Once you have over 50% germination remove any humidity dome to prevent issues with fungus. Once plants are 2-3" tall you can transplant into individual pots. Grow in a cactus or tropical soil mixture.
