Latin Nicotiana alata
This mixture of nicotiana bears beautiful flower shades of white, rose, yellow, scarlet, crimson and lavender. This mixture is an all day bloomer and will reach heights of 3' in optimal conditions. The gorgeous colourful trumpet flowers are highly fragrant and will attract many pollinators to your garden. In cooler evenings the scent is amplified and resembles the smell given off by the sought after jasmine flower.
Growing nicotiana from seed is easy. The miniscule seed size will be your greatest difficulty. You can start nicotiana 6-8 weeks early for a head start on the season or you can directly sow into prepared beds after last frost. Due to the size of seeds watering is the biggest issue growers face. Nicotiana is a seed that is sowed directly on the surface, meaning that you will likely want to pre-moisten your growing medium to prevent them from sinking in. If growing in flats we recommend misting during the germination period. Germination period is 7-21 days at 24 degrees Celsius.
