Royal Scarlet Sweet Pea

This beautiful heirloom crimson flowered sweet pea is our favourite climbing variety. Growing approximately 6' tall on a trellis, the Royal Scarlet Sweet Pea will be loaded with large and fragrant dark red flowers. This wonderful specimen can be used to climb up trellis', fences, or even used in hanging baskets. It is a great addition to any yard however it is used. Stems are very sturdy and flowers are also great as cut flowers.

Sweet Peas grow readily from seed. This is a seed that is best directly sowed. Prepare bed so that the top 1-2" of soil are nice and loose. This is also a time to ensure that beds are free of any weeds from the previous season. Sow seeds a half inch deep and every 2-3 inches. Keep soil moist throughout the germination period (up to 20 days). Once established you can thin to one every 5-6 inches. Plant in full sun (some mid day shade is good in the hottest climate zones) for best results. Provide a trellis or something to climb immediately after germination as they will attach very early in their growth.
