Latin solanum lycopersicum 'Roma'
The Roma tomato is a traditional heirloom tomato. Prized for its meaty interior which makes it a great paste type tomato for sauces and ketchup. These are also commonly called Italian tomatoes. The pear shaped 'plum' fruit has minimal seeds and a rich firm interior. This is also a great tomato for canning because of its firmness. Determinate variety.
Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Matures in 70 days.
A little side note, the VF refers to a continued line of improved cultivar developed in the 1950's. This variety is resistant to verticillium and fusarium wilt. It is still open pollinated and not a hybrid, just improved through selection process.
