Latin Capsicum annuum
Pepperoncini Peppers are a mild heat, sweet tasting pepper that are also known as Tuscan peppers, sweet Italian peppers or golden Greek peppers. They originate from the Greek and Italian area of the Mediterranean. These peppers are most often found pickled where their mild heat and sweet tasting flavour can be stored and last for very long periods of time. In terms of a Scoville rating, these peppers mimic that of the Banana pepper, coming in at a range of 100-500 SHU. This mildness gives them a lot of versatility and they will often be served with many dishes, in sandwiches, salads or even on pizza. When mature the peppers have a beautiful yellow color but will turn red if left on the plant for enough time. If you are a fan of this pepper, try your hand at pickling them this year. Wow your friends and guests with this home made favourite.
