Latin gazania rigens
Bred for their large flowers and compact habit, the New Day Rose Stripes variety boast large white flowers with rose stripes. Gazanias are highly drought tolerant and thrive in the hottest driest parts of the summer. These will do great in containers, baskets and in the garden.
Growing Gazanias is not overly difficult but they must be started early to have sufficient time to bloom. Beginning in late February up until early April sow seeds into soilless mixture. Seeds need darkness to germinate so cover well with germination mix. Alternatively, place flat or pots into complete darkness and cool room temperatures. Once germinated, they will require full sun or grow lights. Basements actually act as a great place to grow Gazanias due to their cooler temperatures. Matures in 90 days.
