Latin asparagus officianalis
This all-male F1 hybrid is one of the best and most productive asparagus varieties you can add to your garden. This perennial has been proven to give consistent production for well over 20 years. Asparagus does take 3-4 years to be a reliable producer but once established it is an excellent vegetable within the home garden. With out-of-control produce prices, consider this a cheap investment in your future.
Growing asparagus from seed is actually quite easy and can be done indoors or directly into your garden. If starting early, grow in a soilless mixture 8 weeks before last frost. Germinations should occur within 14 days. We directly sow ours and plant them about 3 weeks before last frost. Final spacing should be approximately 12-18" apart. Avoid harvesting spears for the first 3 years to encourage root development. Trust us it will be worth it!
