Latin lobelia erinus

Midnight Blue Lobelia is a beautiful and versatile addition to any garden landscape. Great for stuffing between plants, rocks or using as a border. The trailing habit of this variety also makes it a great option for your container planting as well. This annual will give a showy presence to all garden spaces. Plant alongside alyssum for the perfect compliment. The showy flowers of lobelia are attractive to all pollinators as well.

Growing lobelia is quite easy from seed. The only difficult things is how small the seeds are. We recommend moistening the soil medium before spreading the dust size seeds. Do your best to spread evenly but do not worry too much as you can separate the clumps once they are more developed. Use bottom heat to help with germination and place in a bright location. Germination should take 2-3 weeks. To water after spreading seeds use a mister. Transplant into containers or garden in clumps is usually the easiest and best way once they are large enough to handle. Lobelia is highly sensitive to cold so wait until nighttime temperatures are consistently above 10 degrees Celsius. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Plant in full sun to partial shade for best results.
