Latin cucurbita moschata
Butternut squash is one of our favourite varieties here at Pangea. Not much better in life than a bowl of fresh butternut squash soup. These highly productive vines will deliver loads of 3-5lb smooth skinned cream coloured fruit. The deep orange interiors boast excellent flavour that improves with storage.
Growing squash from seed is very easy. Directly sowing your seeds is preferred but they can also be started 3-4 weeks before last frost. If starting early, use plantable paper, peat or coir pots. Plant in hills and allow for 3 plants per hill (start with 4-6 seeds and thin as required). Squash prefers deep well drained soil. Adding compost to your garden yearly is a good practice that will reap rewards with crops like squash. Plant in full sun for best results. Matures in approximately 85 days.
