Creeping Thyme is a zone 4 perennial that falls into both the aesthetically pleasing group and the herbal group. This versatile herb doubles as a beautiful ground cover and an herbal culinary addition. Creeping Thyme has all the same uses as winter thyme but is most popular for its ground cover capabilities and beautiful pink/purple flowers. Very aromatic dark green leaves. Growing Creeping Thyme from seed is very easy. The biggest struggle is handling of the tiny seeds. Pre-wetting your growing medium will help prevent them from sinking to the bottom. Mist to provide moisture during the germination period. Creeping Thyme can either be grown directly in your garden or flower bed or your can start it early indoors. If starting indoors, sow into a soilless mixture 8-10 weeks before last frost. Plant into garden after sufficiently hardening off. If sowing directly, sow in early spring and ensure sufficient moisture throughout germination. Plant in full sun for best results.
