Latin Echinacea x hybrida 'Cheyenne Spirit'
Perennial - Zone 4
Coneflower has been cultivated since the 1700's as a showy, hardy perennial. This is a natural plant of the eastern region of North America. This is a beautiful hybrid coneflower that has daisy-like flower colors ranging from yellow to a crimson red, much like your favorite sunset. It will add a spectacular burst of color to any garden. So much so that it was awarded the AAS gold medal award in 2013 for its beauty and performance. The well branched sturdy stems keep flowers upright and make an excellent choice for cut flowers. It is drought tolerant once established. In fact, coneflower is tolerant of almost anything. High levels of disease resistance, drought tolerance, low fertility needs, sturdy in wind and rain etc. make this the go to perennial.
Growing coneflower from seed is very easy. Directly sow in fall from the beginning of September to the end of October. If starting indoors, sow into soilless medium in February for first year blooms. Harden off before planting outside once the danger of frost has subsided. Plant in full sun or light shade for best performance. Hardy in Zone 4 and above.
