Latin raphanus sativus
This "Winter-type" radish is an excellent flavoured radish for fall and winter use due to it's excellent keep-ability. The mild white flesh and crisp pungent flavour make this an excellent addition to salads, and cooked dishes alike. Roots will get to an approximate length of 6-8" and a width of 2-2.5". This is an heirloom variety that has been grown since the late 19th century.
Growing radishes from seed is very easy. Sowing winter radishes is usually done mid-summer for a late season harvest. Count back 60-65 days from the average first fall frost date to determine when this is best for your area. Ensure that your new seeds are watered during germination and while temperatures are hot in mid-summer.
