Growing to a mature height of 3' Oriental Poppies are a great second row option. Growing Poppies from seed is very easy. This is one perennial that is best directly sowed as poppies are notoriously hard to transplant. Start in early spring before the soil has warmed fully and there is still frost potential. If you thought mint seeds were small, just wait until you have to handle these. Do your best to sow evenly. Press seeds into soil and keep soil moist throughout germination period. A mister will be your best option to keep seeds in place before roots have developed. Plant in full sun for best results. Poppies do best in drier climates as they can be less tolerant of high humidity.
