Genovese basil is one of the most popular varieties of sweet basil available. Originating in Italy, the Genovese variety of basil offers large leaves that are sweet yet slightly spicy. Basil is a critical ingredient in many Greek, Italian and Asian dishes. The large leaves that the Genovese variety offers makes it excellent for dishes like caprese salad and pesto. It can also be used just like regulars basil in all dishes. This variety is popular not only for its size and flavour but also for its slow-to-bolt nature. This habit makes its harvesting window longer than other varieties. Grow in full sun for best results.
Growing basil from seed is very easy. Germination rates and speed of germination will improve if bottom heat is applied. Basil seeds will benefit from a heating mat during the germination period.
