Latin Ocimum basilicum 'Cinnamon'

Cinnamon Basil is a sought after basil variety that originates in Mexico. It is also often called Mexican spice basil. This type of basil has an intense fragrance and flavor. Very reminiscent of Thai basil but with a touch of cinnamon flavor. Violet stems have beautiful lavender flowers with smaller leaves than regular basil. Harvest before flowering to enjoy the best flavor profile. The spicy cinnamon flavour is very popular in teas and other culinary dishes. All varieties of basil will do best in full sun locations.

If growing indoors, place in a bright window or under grow lights for a minimum of 6-8 hours per day. Sow directly into warm soil or in containers for year round harvest. Although most basil varieties are grown solely for their leaves, Cinnamon Basil is quite ornamental and adds a touch of beauty to any garden. Growing basil from seed is very easy. Use any loose, well drained soil mixture or potting mix. Bury seeds approximately 1/4" deep, cover and water in. Using bottom heat is recommended to speed up the germination process. Seeds should sprout in 5-10 days with bottom heat but could be longer if planting into the garden. Once basil has reached sufficient height to bear 6 true leaves, pinch off the top two to encourage a bushier habit. Harvest regularly to encourage a strong growth habit and to prevent flowering. Once flowering basil leaves will change flavour and may become slightly bitter. Basil enjoys warm temperatures and full sun for optimal performance. Matures in 35+ days.
