The National Pickling Cucumber is an excellent choice for the discerning gardener and often rates as the best heirloom cucumber available. Developed in the mid 1920's, this variety will produce an abundance of 6" long cucumbers that are excellent for pickling. This variety can be trellised for optimal production but can also grow along the ground with high levels of success. As an added bonus the National Pickling Cucumber is known to be resistant to mildew and mosaic viruses.
Growing cucumber from seed is very easy. They can be started indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost but can just as easily be directly sowed as they have a shorter growing season. One consideration to make is that they need a warm soil for germination so waiting until mid-June may be necessary for some locations. Plant in full sun for best results. Matures in 52 Days.
