Latin Calendula officinalis

Calendula is one of our favourite flowers to grow here. This easy to grow beauty is also known as pot marigold but it is not related to the marigolds that we commonly grow from the latin genus tagetes . Many gardeners consider calendula to one of the easiest and most rewarding annual to grow. Flowers that are yellow and orange typically occur in less than two months from seeding. The flower is edible and there have been many reports of health benefits connected to calendula.

Growing Calendula is incredibly easy. Directly sow seeds 1/2" deep in the last few days before last frost and water in. Plant in areas that receive full sun or at least half sun for best results. Calendula will often re-seed itself in these conditions. Remove spent flowers for a continuous show throughout the summer.
