Latin Xerochrysum bracteatum
Also known as cornflowers, these stunning flowers are a great addition to your flower garden. When in full bloom, this mixture is a show stopper. Blended for uniform growth and flowering, this is the ideal mixture for your garden. This Mixture will give festive colours of yellow, white, pink, salmon, copper and red. Mature height can be up to 40" tall! Highly attractive to all pollinators. Great as a cut flower, especially when dried. These will last months if dried properly.
Growing strawflower is easy but should be started early indoors for many Canadian regions. In regions with long summers, you can directly sow in mid-April. For the rest of us, start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. For either option sow directly onto the soil as these seeds need light to germinate. Water very gently to avoid disturbing them during the germination period of one to three weeks (bottom water if possible). Removing spent flowers will help encourage a longer bloom period. You can also grow a second round of them 2-3 weeks after first round for an extra long bloom period.
