Swiss Giant Pansy has nice large blooms that come in a wide range of colours. This classic, heirloom variety is sought after even with all the hybrid options out there. Swiss Show Giant will possess flowers with solid colors and a blotched face. Pansies are great for borders, containers or en masse for the greatest show. Pansies and viola can withstand light frost, so these can be transplanted earlier than most annuals. We have successfully brought these down to -5 degrees celsius (covered) with only slight leaf damage.
To have early blooms, pansies must be started early. We recommend starting 10-12 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1/4" deep and water thoroughly. Pansies germinate in the absence of light so keep them in a warm dark spot until germination has occurred. Pansies can be slow to germinate so be patient (14+ days). After germination provide pansies with ample light to prevent stretching. Once developed, pansies can be planted in full sun or in partial shade.
