Latin phaseolus vulgaris
The Royal Burgundy Bush bean is a great selection for its colour and flavour. The strong upright plants grow to a mature height of approximately 18" and bear plentiful amounts of 6" purple pods. The pods are great for eating fresh, freezing and canning. This variety is a great option for those living in areas with cooler nights as it thrives in cooler soils. Royal Burgundy is also resistant to bean beetles and powdery mildew.
Growing beans from seed is very easy. Seeds should be directly sown into warm soils. Wait until daytime soil temperatures are above 16 degrees Celsius. Plant seeds 1" deep, 2" apart and thin to 6" once developing. Using a garden inoculant can increase yields especially in the first seasons. Matures in 60 days.
