Latin Artemesia dracunculus var. drucunculoides 'Pursch'

A hardy perennial herb, Russian Tarragon is native to southern and eastern parts of modern day Russia. It also falls under a few names; artemesia, siberian tarragon and wild tarragon. This variety of tarragon is a part of the daisy family and has historical roots dating back thousands of years. This herb has a long history of being used medicinally. In fact, it is still used today in many countries to treat a long list of ailments. It also has been studied and laboratory confirmed that Russian Tarragon has antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiplatelet activities. In Canada, Artemisia dracunculus is registered as a licensed natural health product. For culinary purposes it is used less widely than French Tarragon but Russian Tarragon boast a distinctive flavour that is utilized in sauces and used in making Tarragon vinegar. It is also used with many meat dishes.

This vigorous variety of tarragon can grow to 4 feet tall if in ideal conditions. It is also a very easy plant to grow, simply place onto damp soil or press lightly into growing medium. Maintain moisture levels during germination. Once plants are a few inches tall and ready to go outside (after hardening off) place in full sun or best results. Start indoors 6 weeks before last frost or into containers for year round harvest. Matures in 90 days.
