Latin antirrhinum majus
This Snapdragon Rainbow Mix will delight any gardener seeking to brighten up their yard. This mixture consists of deep reds, coral, bright pinks and golden yellows. Mature height for this variety is approximately 24". These flowers make excellent cut flowers as well as a yard statement piece. If deadheaded regularly, these beautiful flowers will continue to flower all season long.
Snapdragons are easy to grow from seed. The seeds are incredibly small though, so it is sometimes difficult to evenly spread. Do your best to spread them on top of a pre-watered germination mixture. Do not cover seeds unless you use vermiculite to do so. We do not use any cover (plastic domes or shrink wrap) for snapdragons to increase airflow and prevent damp off. Many growers will bottom water to further prevent this from happening. We have had high levels of success with grow lights indoors to start snaps. The dryer indoor air along with the consistent heat of the lights seems to prevent damp off from occurring. Start 8-10 weeks before last frost but ensure that night time temperatures are consistently above 10 degrees Celsius before transplanting outdoors. Germination should occur after about two weeks.
