Latin chicorium intybus

This beautiful heirloom vegetable is a great addition to your garden. The variegated foliage is attractive, crisp and incredibly tasty. This variety has a notably less bitter taste than other varieties of chicory/radicchio. Grilled radicchio, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is a delectable summer treat.

Growing radicchio is fairly easy and can be done both by starting early or directly sowing. Sow seeds 1/4" deep and thin or plant to a spacing of 12" apart. Keep in mind that radicchio can bolt in temperatures that are too hot. We plant ours in a spot that gets some mid-day shade and that seems to prevent bolting from occurring.Matures in 85 days.
