Latin Solanum Lycopersicum

The ‘Manitoba’ Tomato was first selected in 1956 at the Morden Research Station in Manitoba. This variety stood out in its ability to thrive in a cooler short season without sacrificing production or flavor. This variety has also proven to have high levels of resistance to fusarium and verticillium wilt. Fruit on this variety is medium in size (usually around 6oz), deep red in colour and very prolific. The Manitoba Tomato is great for slicing or canning. This dependable tomato won’t disappoint.

Successfully growing tomatoes means giving them the right conditions consistently. Full sun (at minimum 6 hours) is a must when growing any variety of tomato. Another factor of high importance is consistency of watering. Although tomatoes can handle a little bit of drought, they will often suffer from other problems if watering is neglected or fluctuated. The most common is blossom end rot. Fluctuations in watering inhibit the ability of proper nutrient delivery (in this case calcium) thus leading to deficiency symptoms. If you can maintain these two variables, the Manitoba Tomato will reward you with excellent yields of great tasting fruit in the shortest time possible. Heirloom variety. Start 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Matures in 60 days.
