Latin Ipomoea Alba

Moonflower is a tropical vine that originates in Central and South America. They are related closely to morning glories, with one notable exception. Their flowers open in the evening, stay throughout the night and then close in the early morning. Moonflower are a brilliant way to extend your love for morning glories into the evenings. The combination of a strong fragrance and showy white flowers attracts nighttime moths to the flowers.

Growing over 10 feet in a single season, moonflower bears a large amount of beautifully fragrant white trumpet flowers. These fragrant flowers will add another dimension if planted around porches and windows. Start 4-6 weeks before last frost but transplant gently as moonflower does not like its roots being disturbed. Directly sowing them is another option if your climate permits. Wait until after the last frost of spring to put them outside as moonflower is highly sensitive to frost. Soak in room temperature water overnight before seeding.
