Latin Lavatera trimestris
Mont Blanc Lavatera is also known as Annual Mallow variety, 'Mont Blanc'. This easy to grow annual will give you a stunning display of extra large white flowers that resemble hibiscus. The flower heads can be up to 4" across and are highly attractive to bees. These flowers aren't just for the daytime they are also known to "glow" in the moonlight. Plant in clusters to see the beautiful display that is possible both day and night. Reaching a mature height of 24-36" this makes a good cluster for the center of your flower garden. Removing spent flowers will increase flowering time. These are also excellent as cut flowers for your home.
Mallow is an easy to grow seed. When sowing seeds, barely cover seeds with a light germination mixture and water thoroughly. Germination can be a little slow and take up to 3 weeks. We start ours 8 weeks before last frost to ensure sufficient growth prior to placing outside. Transplant into a well drained flower bed or border bed in full sun for best results. Lavatera does not like transplanting so only do so in plug form or use a plant-able coir or peat pot, do not bare root transplant at any stage. You can also opt to direct sow these seeds but expect a delayed flower. Full maturity is reached in about 80 days.
