Latin Ipomoea tricolor
Morning Glory's are a beautiful vining plant that originates from Mexico and Central America. The Heavenly Blue Morning Glory variety is a highly sought after heirloom variety of morning glory. Its stunning blue flower stands out from the crowd of other morning glory's. So-much-so, that it won the prestigious 'Award of Garden Merit' by the Royal Horticultural Society. This vigorous, beautiful vine grows heart-shaped leaves and vibrant azure-blue trumpet flowers that bloom all summer long. Like all morning glory's, their flowers open in the cooler parts of the morning and close through the heat of the day. It is not uncommon for this morning glory vine to crawl 10' up a trellis in a single summer. The trumpet-like flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies alike.
Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost of spring and transplant only once there is no more chance of frost. Alternatively you can direct sow morning glory seeds. These seeds need to be soaked overnight in room temperature water. Plant in full sun for best results. Heirloom variety.
