Latin capsicum annuum
Fresno Chili Pepper originates from the early 1950's and gets its name from Fresno, California. They are a highly enjoyed variety of pepper in cooking and sauces. Although genetically different to the jalapeno, they are similar in both size and heat levels. Interestingly, peppers on this plant have an upright habit as opposed to the downward habit of jalapenos. Where they excel is their shorter maturation time and excellent disease resistance. This pepper is a favorite for ceviche and salsas. Peppers mature from green to red and grow to approximately 3" long. They have a Scoville rating that ranges between 2,500 and 10,000. Matures in approximately 75 days. Heirloom variety.
