Latin liatris spicata

This stunning perennial is a great addition to your garden. Often used as a cut flower or a tall mid-garden flower. This variety of Liatris will grow to a mature height of about 3' and produce beautiful violet blooms throughout mid summer. Liatris is unique in its flower as it blooms from top to bottom. For best results plant liatris in part shade to full sun in well draining beds.
Liatris is easy to grow from seed and can be sown directly into the garden or grown inside. Being a perennial, liatris will need cold stratification to germinate optimally. If seeding outside, fall sowing is recommended to take advantage of natural stratification. If growing indoors, follow proper stratification methods and sow into a soilless mixture. Cover seeds lightly with soil/mixture as light aids in germination. Keep growing mixture moist throughout the germination period. Seeds will germinate in 3-4 weeks. Always harden off plants that have been grown indoors before planting into their permanent outdoor home.
