Infamously known as the hottest pepper in the World. The Carolina Reaper comes in at a whopping 2,200,000 SHU. The origins of the Carolina reaper pepper come from a cross between the ghost pepper and a red habanero. It was bred in South Carolina and tested at Winthrop University. This pepper has a sweet and fruity flavor along with relentless face melting heat. The fruit pods themselves range from smooth to gnarly and bumpy. Most but not all will have a pointed "tail". The color is usually red but natural genetic variations will sometimes produce peach, chocolate or yellow pods. Handle both Carolina Reaper seeds and fruit with care! Wear gloves and be extra careful not to touch your face or any sensitive skin areas.
Growing super hot peppers takes a little more care than your average pepper. These usually have a lower germination rate and grow a little bit slower. Many super hot peppers have a maturity time that exceeds 100 days. This means that starting them early is imperative to success. This type of intense heat takes extra time to mature. Plant in full sun for best results. Matures in 90 days.
