Latin papavar nudicaule

Perennial - Zone 2

The Icelandic Poppy is one of our favourite cold hardy perennials to grow. Delivers beautiful showy 4" wide flowers in a full colour range atop graceful fern like foliage. Performs poorly as a perennial in hot, humid summer climates but can still be successfully grown as an annual in these areas. Climates with hot but dry summers will find high levels of success with this variety. This variety will self-sow but will not become invasive. Makes excellent cut-flowers.

Growing poppies from seed is easy and can be done both early indoors or directly into the garden. If sowing indoors, start in late February or early March. Sow into a soilless mixture but do not bury seeds as they need light to germinate. Germinate at approximately room temperature (70 degrees Fahrenheit). Grow with lights at a slightly cooler temperature until hardening off before outdoor planting. Direct sowing can be done in early spring or late fall. Barely cover seeds outdoors.
