Latin Beta vulgaris
This Italian heritage beet has a long history that dates back to at least the 1840's. The interior rings of this beet resemble that of a candy cane and it is sometimes referred to as candy stripe beet or bull's eye beet. This variety is known to have a sweeter and milder taste to other varieties. This Italian specialty can be used in fresh salads and for cooking.
These exotic looking beets are just as easy as any variety of beet to grow. Sow directly into garden 1/2" deep and approximately 1" apart. Once they have germinated thin to 2" apart. Beets do not compete well with weeds so ensure you keep a clean garden around them. Cultivate lightly to avoid disturbing their roots. Harvest-able once roots reach 1" in diameter. Full maturity is reached in 55 Days.
