Latin Cosmos sulphureus
These large bright flowers of yellow, gold, orange and red shades will light up any garden space. The large blooms will attract many pollinators to your garden. Like most other types of cosmos, the foliage is elegantly fine and lacy. Being in the middle height range, Bright Lights Cosmos make a great background flower, especially when planted en mass. Cosmos are highly drought tolerant and disease resistant. Use in xeriscaping and rock gardens with high levels of success. The long stems also provide an excellent and natural cut flower for the home.
This Mexico native is incredibly easy to grow and is suitable for all zones. We recommend directly sowing cosmos for the best results. Once the soil can be worked and the danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 1/4" deep and cover lightly. Germination will usually occur in about 5 days but can take up to 2 weeks if conditions are poor. Once cosmos are growing they require little to no care. Removing spent flowers will prolong flowering time. In windy areas you may need to stake them to prevent falling over.
