Latin raphanus sativus
Try a unique spin on an old variety this year. In reality, this black radish dates back to the 1600's (long before many of the radish varieties that are common today). This variety boast large 4" globular roots that are black on the outside and pure white on the inside. The crisp and pungent flavour is excellent. This variety also stores very well.
This is a winter variety so it is usually sown mid summer and harvested in the fall. Maturation is about 56 days but can be harvested anytime after sufficient size has been achieved. Sow in rows, 1/2" deep and space seeds approximately 3-4" apart. One pack easily sows 5'.
